Our Mission
Founded in 1958, the Howard County Historical Society (HCHS) is the primary private repository of historical records and artifacts related to Howard County’s rich history. The Howard County Historical Society provides access to materials that aid in historical exploration, research and discovery for all ages and cultural groups.
Our mission is attained through:
Commitment to excellence in maintaining and preserving the Collections in our Archives and Library, Museum and Quaker School/Children’s Museum;
Providing opportunities and support for the public’s engagement in research.
Dedication to public access and education about Howard County History through our Archives and Library, Museum, and Quaker School/Children’s Museum; exhibits and programming including lectures related to the history of Howard County, workshops, and other public initiatives.
Active involvement of our membership in support of the work of the Society.

To be recognized as the comprehensive, private repository of written documents, images and artifacts pertaining to the history of Howard County through the quality, preservation and organization of our Collections, our distinctive educational programs, and our commitment to excellence.
Access :
To be dedicated to providing and facilitating public access to our resources for learning, research, knowledge, and the expansion and improvement of our Collections.
School Collaboration:
To continue expanding on our partnership with schools and educators to provide opportunities for elementary, secondary, and higher education students to learn about Howard County history and build awareness of resources available from the Society.
Diversity:
