Leave a Lasting Legacy with HCHS
Have you considered creating a legacy that strengthens the Howard County Historical Society for generations to come?
A planned gift is a powerful and flexible way to ensure the preservation of our county’s rich history. Whether through your will, a retirement account, or a Donor Advised Fund, your generosity today secures the stories of tomorrow.
New for 2026: Expanded Giving Opportunities
Recent federal tax law changes have introduced new ways for Howard County residents to support HCHS more efficiently.
New Deduction for Non-Itemizers: If you take the standard deduction, you can now claim a "universal" charitable deduction for cash gifts.
Single filers: Deduct up to $1,000.
Married filing jointly: Deduct up to $2,000.
Enhanced IRA Giving (QCDs): For those aged 70½ or older, the annual limit for tax-free Qualified Charitable Distributions has increased to $111,000.
One-Time Lifetime Opportunity: You may now make a one-time QCD election of up to $55,000 to fund a Charitable Gift Annuity (CGA), providing you with fixed payments for life while supporting HCHS.
Traditional Planned Giving Options
Bequests & Estate Gifts: Name HCHS in your will or trust as a specific amount, a percentage, or the residue of your estate.
Retirement Account Designations: Designate HCHS as a beneficiary of your 401(k), 403(b), or pension to potentially provide your heirs with significant tax advantages.
Donor Advised Funds (DAF): Recommend grants to HCHS from your DAF, allowing you to take an immediate tax deduction while maintaining flexibility in the timing of your support.
