From Research to Exhibit

Join the Howard County Historical Society at this year’s Downtown Columbia Mini Maker Faire. Our exhibit at the Faire will demonstrate the processes for developing a museum exhibit. The research process involves multiple pathways depending on the scale of the exhibit. We will be using a recently developed exhibit as a model. For this exhibit, staff conducted genealogical, deed, historical records, and artifact research. A timeline of the process used to explain a new exhibit at a historic farmhouse will be presented, with some artifacts and exhibit facsimiles on display. Attendees will have the opportunity to conduct historical interpretation of an artifact, image, or print record. We will have facsimiles on hand and will guide participants through the process of historical analysis and interpretation.
