Howard County Historical Society is staffed exclusively by volunteers
under the able guidance of our Executive Director. Our volunteers
clip relevant articles from newspapers, and put them in appropriate vertical
files, thousands of original deeds and mortgages have been indexed, local
newspapers are kept current, letters and manuscripts are reviewed and
inventoried; books cataloged and reshelved; Library and Museum gifts
are accessed and acknowledged; surname files are kept on families; garden
and grounds kept up. Docents give tours of the Museum, as well as assist
in scheduling and setting up exhibits and coordinating refreshments.
Volunteers are the life blood of our Society, and we are always looking
for more people who are interested in history, genealogy, antiques, clothing
and textiles, and all the wonderful things which our Library and Museum
have to offer. Volunteers are needed particularly on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
but most welcome the other days of operation. Training is available,
and it is a marvelous opportunity to become more familiar with Howard
County.
